South African President, Jacob Zuma, has finally paid for the non-security upgrades to his private Nkandla home after widespread of criticism from opposition parties as well as the people of South Africa. The Treasury yesterday confirmed that the President has paid his debt, in line with a court order issued in March.

“We can confirm that the payment has been received,” a spokeswoman for the Treasury said.

In June, Treasury said Zuma should pay R7.8m for the non security upgrades, after the Constitutional Court ruling in March ordered President Zuma to pay back some of the more than R240m spent upgrading his private home.
